Uzbekistan: International Week of Innovative Ideas InnoWeek.Uz-2022

18-19 October 2022, during the International week of innovative ideas "InnoWeek.Uz-2022" the official ceremony of forming of the first structure of the Advisory Council on Artificial Intelligence at the Ministry of innovative development of the Republic of Uzbekistan took place. UNESCO provided resource materials and recommendations on access to information and ethical aspects of artificial intelligence as well as digital transformation standards.

UNESCO and Uzbekistan during the celebration of the International Day for Universal Access to Information on the theme "Artificial Intelligence, e-Government and Access to Information" celebrated on September 28, 2022, adopted the draft Tashkent Declaration defining the contribution of AI to the improvement of public services. The ethical side of the issue is reflected in the recommendations "On the ethical aspects of artificial intelligence", adopted by the Paris Conference of UNESCO in 2021.

UNESCO office in Tashkent and the UNESCO Office in Almaty monitor the implementation of international standards and specific projects to support the member states' efforts in the implementation of AI in national strategies and policies.

The Artificial Intelligence Advisory Council (AI Council) was established under the Ministry of Innovative Development of Uzbekistan in August 2022 to create conditions for the formation of a community of experts and promote public dialogue on this topic. The Council's tasks include supporting activities related to AI in Uzbekistan, developing individual projects, working on promising initiatives, and establishing international contacts, in order to integrate into the global community, which is working on the conscious and ethical use of artificial intelligence. A comprehensive approach to ethical issues, use of human potential, the flexibility of technology adaptation, and development of general IT infrastructure of the country is intended to influence the general economic and social development of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

A special part of the Council's activity is the in-depth study of the best world practices, and consideration of each issue from different sides, so the participation of people from different social groups with ideas, life experience, knowledge, and skills related to the development of society and economy is extremely important in the process of discussion.

The meeting is opened by the Minister of Innovative Development, Honorary Chairman of the Council Minister of Innovative Development Ibrahim Yulchievich Abdurakhmonov.

Further, Advisor to the Minister of Innovative Development, Chairman of the Advisory Council on Artificial Intelligence Rakhimov Bobur presented for discussion the main areas of activity of the Advisory Council on AI.

International partners from universities of the United Arab Emirates, Iran, China, and India as well as experts from the USA, EU countries, Russia and Tajikistan are invited to participate. At the end of the first day, the ceremonial signing of the documents by the members of the Advisory Board taken the place.

The second day of the meeting is outlined by the work plan of the Council for 2022-2024, with the list of specific areas of work, initiatives, scientific, practical, innovative, educational, and business projects on the development of artificial intelligence in the Republic of Uzbekistan. The composition of the Council and the Program of work will be published on the website of the Ministry of Innovative Development of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
